Dating App Predator Sentenced to 291 Years for Horrific Rapes and Sodomies

Jun 18 2026

A Missouri man, Yahya Maly, 30, faces a staggering 291 years in prison for a calculated scheme that involved raping and sodomizing seven women he lured to his apartment via dating apps.

Maly's predatory actions spanned from March 2023 to February 2025, targeting primarily Muslim women seeking connections through a religious dating app that mandated adherence to Islamic values, including abstinence.

During the trial, three of the seven victims recounted their harrowing experiences. They expressed deep reluctance to report the assaults, fearing dismissal or shame from law enforcement.

One victim described her initial encounter with Maly, who went by the alias "John." She testified that he forcibly removed her hijab and raped her while claiming they were married.

The woman stated they had met on a mainstream dating app, where they discussed Islamic principles before agreeing to meet in person.

When she attempted to leave, Maly berated her, threatening eternal damnation if she did not comply with his so-called "wifely duties."

She described the situation as “the weirdest misunderstanding ever.”

On a subsequent visit to his apartment, Maly raped her again. She returned a third time with intentions of killing him, only to be assaulted once more.

“Life felt like it was already over,” she confessed.

Two victims attended Maly's sentencing, which had been long awaited. One victim shared her internal struggle about attending, ultimately deciding that facing him was necessary for her closure.

Maly was convicted on multiple charges: four counts of first-degree rape or attempted rape, eight counts of second-degree rape, and five counts of first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy.

He was acquitted of two counts of assault and two counts of kidnapping.
