DHS Chief Issues Ominous Warning to State Officials Defying Trump's Election Fabrications

Jul 18 2026

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin unleashed a chilling ultimatum on state officials, warning of dire consequences if they refuse to endorse Donald Trump’s SAVE America Act.

At a press conference, Mullin echoed Trump’s baseless claims about the 2020 election being rigged, suggesting that non-compliance from state officials could lead to serious repercussions.

When pressed by a reporter about ensuring secure midterm elections, Mullin emphasized the necessity of “building confidence in the American people,” while insisting that “the states have to do their part.”

He ominously declared that state election officials who fail to “participate in the SAVE program” could face accountability measures including fines, penalties, and potentially prison time.

The SAVE America Act aims to enforce voter identification requirements, mandating proof of citizenship for voter registration and photo ID at polling places. However, its passage in the Senate remains highly unlikely despite Trump’s push.

Mullin’s threat may have been intended to project strength, but critics quickly pointed out that the Constitution assigns election management to the states, not the federal government.
