DHS Executive Placed on Leave Amid Sugar Daddy Allegations

Apr 23 2026

A senior official at the Department of Homeland Security has been placed on administrative leave following serious allegations regarding her solicitation of funds from wealthy benefactors, commonly referred to as “sugar daddies.”

Julia Varvaro, a 29-year-old counterterrorism official, is at the center of a formal complaint that raises concerns about her personal relationships potentially compromising national security. The complaint was lodged with the DHS inspector general and details her alleged involvement in transactional relationships, as reported.

“Varvaro is currently on leave pending the outcome of the investigation and is no longer fulfilling her duties as Deputy Assistant Secretary,” a spokesperson for the department confirmed.

Her appointment to this significant role came in May 2025, shortly after she graduated with a degree in Homeland Security from St. John’s University. Varvaro has been seen at various MAGA events and has posed for photographs with former President Donald Trump.

The complaint was filed by an executive known only as “Robert B,” who claims to have spent around $40,000 on Varvaro during their brief three-month relationship, which began on the dating app Hinge.

According to Robert, Varvaro allegedly maintained a profile on the sugar daddy platform Seeking, where she presented herself as offering “seductive sophistication.”

“I never intended for this to be a sugar daddy or prostitution arrangement,” he stated in his complaint, detailing expenses that included vacations, Cartier jewelry, and luxury handbags. “She mentioned that her college education was funded by sugar daddies, which raises concerns about her financial stability and security risks.”

In response to the allegations, Varvaro denied having an account on Seeking and asserted that her actions were not inappropriate. “I didn’t realize it was wrong to vacation with my boyfriend,” she remarked. “We were in an exclusive relationship; I don’t see the issue.”

Marc Polymeropoulos, a former CIA official, expressed concern over the implications of such allegations. “The claims regarding a sugar daddy relationship and unreported income are serious matters for DHS personnel that must be addressed,” he noted. “It raises questions about the vetting process involved…”

The Independent has reached out to Varvaro for further comment but has yet to receive a response.
