Don Lemon Flirts with 2028 Presidential Bid: “People Keep Asking Me”

Jul 18 2026

Don Lemon, former CNN host, is throwing his hat into the political ring, declaring he’s “serious” about a potential presidential run in 2028. He insists he’d make a “really good” commander-in-chief.

This eyebrow-raising claim surfaced during an appearance on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast, where Lemon faced questions about his political ambitions. “Do you have political ambition? Is that true?” asked co-host Travis Dhanraj.

Lemon responded, “No, but people keep asking me if I’m running for president.” He added, “And I don’t know. I might. I’m serious. I don’t know. I might, because people keep asking me to do it, or if I’m going to do it.”

At 60 years old, Lemon argues that experience isn’t a prerequisite for the presidency, pointing to President Trump’s lack of political background before his 2016 victory.

He didn’t hold back on criticizing Trump, stating the president “could have done a better job if he actually listened to people, but he doesn’t and he thinks he knows everything.”

“But, um, I actually think I would be a really good president of the United States,” Lemon asserted.

For Lemon to launch a presidential campaign, he emphasized the need to do so “without having to beg for money,” expressing uncertainty about the realism of that goal.

His career took a hit when he was ousted from CNN in April 2023. Since then, he has rebranded himself as an independent journalist and now hosts “The Don Lemon Show” on YouTube and other platforms.

In January, Lemon was arrested while participating in a protest against ICE, where he and 38 others were charged with federal civil rights violations after storming a church service in Minnesota.
