Donald Trump Slammed for 'Swollen and Unkempt' Appearance in Latest Interview

Jun 07 2026

Donald Trump’s latest interview sparked a firestorm of online criticism, with accusations of him looking "swollen and unkempt."

The president sat down with NBC's Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker in Wisconsin, where he also participated in a roundtable on American Agriculture. The interview aired on June 7, covering topics like the war with Iran, gas prices, and the "Anti-Weaponization" fund.

Independent Journalist Aaron Rupar shared a 19-second clip from the interview on X (formerly Twitter), claiming the 79-year-old Trump appeared "swollen and unkempt." This comes on the heels of Trump being caught dozing during an Oval Office press briefing about "Beautiful, Clean Coal" just days earlier.

Commenters flooded the section with agreement, one stating, "He looks like absolute s--t. Time for Grandpa to retire and get some non-televised sleep." Another chimed in, "DEMENTIA DON does not look good. He’s going through some health issues the administration is hiding."

Critics noted visible signs of decline, with one remarking, "The side of his mouth is drooping. And he’s wearing some ridiculously dark face makeup." Another observer pointed out, "He almost fell when he got up from the chair, unsteady."

Concerns about Trump's health have intensified recently, particularly after his third annual checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on May 26. Despite his claims of "perfect" results, speculation continues to swirl.

Trump has been seen dozing off at press briefings and cabinet meetings. His speech patterns have raised eyebrows due to their rambling and fragmented nature. Additionally, photographs have surfaced showing bruising on his hands and swollen ankles.

In July 2025, the White House disclosed that Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition where leg veins fail to return blood to the heart, causing pooling in the legs. This diagnosis followed reports of swelling in his ankles.

Trump's third official physical report was released on May 29. The report addressed the cause of his bruises.

Capt. Sean Barbabella, DO, Trump's physician, stated that the bruising on Trump's hands was "consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention." He added that this is a common and benign effect of aspirin therapy.

Barbabella also claimed in the report that Trump was in "excellent health" physically and neurologically.

On Truth Social, Trump declared on May 29 that his third physical went "PERFECTLY."
