‘Euphoria’ Creator Reveals Sydney Sweeney’s Relentless Battle to Keep Her Risqué Scenes

Jun 02 2026

“Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson revealed that Sydney Sweeney fought tooth and nail to retain her explicit scenes in the series' final season after he suggested cutting them.

Levinson recounted, “When I first wrote it, I was like, ‘Maybe we shoot all of this and we don’t have any nudity. Maybe there’s ways to shoot around certain things?’” Sweeney shot back, “Are you kidding? I’m playing an OnlyFans model. You’re telling me you’re going to, like, skirt around it?” Levinson quickly conceded, “Yeah, OK, that’s a fair point.”

In discussing their creative dynamic, Levinson emphasized Sweeney's fearless approach to her role.

He labeled her a “totally fearless actor,” commending her professionalism and commitment. “She shows up just game every day. I adore working with her because there’s such a flexibility in terms of the performance. There’s a lot of trust that we have.”

Levinson elaborated on Sweeney’s character, who turns to OnlyFans to finance her lavish lifestyle after struggling to cover the costs of her extravagant wedding to fiancé Nate Jacobs.

“We’re tackling this world of OnlyFans where women are being paid to, like, whisper into an ear-shaped microphone. There is a level of absurdity to it that is just fun,” he stated. The aim is to keep it authentic, humorous, and dramatic while addressing the character's deeper desires.

Seasons 1–3 of “Euphoria” are streaming now on HBO Max.
