Fox News Viewers Roast Trump Ally for Blaming Elizabeth Warren as Spirit Airlines Crashes
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent took a swing at Elizabeth Warren, claiming she’s the reason Spirit Airlines nosedived into bankruptcy.
Fox News viewers weren’t having it. After Bessent, a Trump appointee, pointed fingers at Warren and the Biden administration during his Sunday Morning Futures appearance, the backlash was swift and brutal.
“This is just more of the mess we inherited from the Biden administration,” Bessent declared, attempting to deflect responsibility for the budget airline's demise. He argued that Democratic opposition to a merger years ago set the stage for Spirit’s downfall, just as Trump was considering a government bailout.

“In September 2022, Elizabeth Warren, who loves to write letters, sent a letter to the Justice Department, to the Transport Department, saying that they should oppose the merger with Spirit Airlines,” he continued, referencing Jet Blue’s failed $3.8 billion acquisition attempt. “If Jet Blue had merged with Spirit, we would have all these jobs that were lost yesterday.”
But viewers weren’t buying Bessent’s narrative. As gas prices soar amid Trump’s ongoing conflict with Iran, many called out the Treasury Secretary for his blame game. One viewer on X quipped, “An additional $15 million a week in jet fuel cost is no reason to shut down an airline but a letter from Elizabeth Warren that certainly is.”
Another chimed in, “Spirit Airlines had high operational cash burn before Elizabeth Warren's letter but sure, another lie on God’s day.” The frustration was palpable as one user remarked, “For a smart guy, he sure comes up with some doozies. He really has no respect for the intelligence of the average person.”

Spirit Airlines officially ceased operations on May 2 after 34 years of budget travel. The airline had been struggling financially for years, citing skyrocketing oil prices as a major factor in its closure. Bessent’s comments only fueled the fire of discontent among viewers who felt he was dodging accountability.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy reportedly stated, “We often times don’t have half a billion dollars laying around,” before Spirit closed its doors for good. Yet Bessent’s insistence on blaming Warren and Buttigieg for the merger failure didn’t sit well with many.
Comments flooded in: “These excuses are getting old. Warren wrote a LETTER?! Oh FFS,” and “You can’t make this s--t up! Welcome to the golden era of Donald Trump’s America. There is no spinning this.” One pointed out, “Spirit Airlines blamed it on the high cost of fuel which would be on Trump.”

The fallout from Bessent’s remarks continues to unfold as viewers demand accountability and clarity in the wake of Spirit Airlines’ collapse.
