GOP Rep. Blames Paul Pelosi for Hammer Attack by Delusional MAGA Supporter
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) spewed conspiracy theories about Paul Pelosi, blaming the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for a brutal hammer attack by a deranged MAGA supporter in 2022.
In an interview with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson, Issa sidestepped the facts while discussing Pelosi’s recent hit-and-run incident in Northern California.
Pelosi faced misdemeanor hit-and-run charges after allegedly colliding with an unoccupied parked vehicle in Napa Valley’s upscale Yountville on July 3.
Issa wasted no time dropping a loaded reference to “Bohemian Grove,” the secretive meeting place of the men-only Bohemian Club, which conspiracy theorists claim orchestrates global affairs from the shadows.
He insinuated that Pelosi, a member of this elite group, could be “as drunk as could be” if he were at the Grove, ignoring that toxicology reports showed no alcohol in his system post-accident. However, Pelosi does have a DUI record, serving five days in jail in 2022 for a misdemeanor offense.
Issa labeled Pelosi as having “serious problems,” questioning the circumstances of the October 2022 attack where Pelosi allegedly let an intruder into their San Francisco home, resulting in a severe head injury.

During the home invasion, Pelosi suffered a life-threatening skull fracture after being tied up and assaulted with a hammer by David DePape. DePape intended to hold Speaker Pelosi hostage, driven by a mix of far-right conspiracies including QAnon and Pizzagate.
In the aftermath, Trump and other right-wing figures falsely claimed the incident was a “false flag” operation orchestrated by Democrats.
In May 2024, DePape was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted on two federal charges. Later that October, he received a life sentence without parole in a separate state trial.
