Hunter Biden, son of the former President, directly confronted social media users who accused him of leaving a bag of cocaine in the White House.
Biden posted a video declaring seven years of sobriety, a significant milestone following his well-documented battles with substance abuse.
"Seven years, clean and sober," he stated in the video. "I'm more proud of that than anything I've ever done in my life."
His announcement quickly drew fire from online trolls, with one user bluntly stating: “Bulls***. That was your bag of coke in the White House.”
Biden shot back, "It most definitely was not. I would never have forgotten my drugs," eliciting laughter from the accuser.
The troll's comment referenced a small bag of cocaine discovered in the West Wing of the White House in 2023, triggering a Secret Service investigation.
Hunter Biden has been a frequent target for right-wing operatives aiming to tarnish his father's reputation ahead of the 2020 U.S. election.
In December 2024, former President Joe Biden faced backlash from both sides after pardoning his son, claiming Hunter had been “selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted” by the Department of Justice.
In June 2024, Hunter Biden was convicted on federal gun charges and later pleaded guilty to nine federal tax charges in September of that same year.
Just days before his sobriety announcement, Jill Biden, his stepmother and former First Lady, expressed regret on The View for not discussing his addiction struggles more openly during their time in the White House.
“I'm sorry that I didn't talk about it a little bit more,” she admitted. “And I hope that by talking about it more as I go forward I hope that it offers other people hope ... it is such a tough, tough thing to deal with,” she added.
In her memoir, View from the East Wing, Jill Biden revealed that she and her husband often avoided discussing their son's issues.
“I think we were partly in denial,” she reflected.
She questions in the book why Biden—despite having resources, privilege, and a loving family—turned to drugs.
