Jan. 6 Participant Quits DOJ Role, Claims Inability to Uncover Abuses

A former FBI agent, who was involved in the January 6 insurrection, has stepped down from his position at the Department of Justice, expressing frustration over his failure to reveal alleged government misconduct from within.

Jared Lane Wise, who joined the DOJ as a counselor to pardon attorney Ed Martin Jr. last July, submitted his resignation on Thursday.

“I returned to Washington to fully expose the abuses by the FBI and DOJ against J6 defendants, but it became clear that this will only happen from outside of government,” he stated on X. “So I left and will do so.”

Wise faced charges for his actions during the Capitol riot, where he reportedly encouraged violence against law enforcement. He was among nearly 1,600 individuals pardoned by President Donald Trump last year.

A spokesperson for the DOJ confirmed Wise's resignation, describing it as “long planned.”

“We thank him for his service to this nation,” the spokesperson noted in an email.

Wise's role involved advising Martin, who was overseeing an investigation into claims of anti-conservative bias within the DOJ during the Biden administration, according to reports.

Pam Bondi, who lost her position as attorney general on the same day Wise resigned, had previously advocated for the establishment of a “weaponization working group” aimed at identifying instances where federal agencies pursued political objectives rather than justice.

This group was tasked with delivering quarterly updates to the White House regarding its findings.

The current status of this group remains unclear, as does the nature of any revelations it may have provided to Trump. Bondi faced public criticism from Trump for her inability to prosecute his political adversaries effectively.

In February, Martin was quietly removed from his role overseeing the investigative group. While no official reason was given, sources indicated that progress under his leadership had been minimal.
