Jul 31 2026

Donald Trump seemed to drift off during the funeral service for Lindsey Graham, igniting a storm of online backlash. The former President was present as dignitaries gathered at Washington National Cathedral.

Among the attendees were Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Footage from the event showed Trump blinking slowly and shutting his eyes, appearing to doze off.

Comments flooded social media, with one user stating, "He's struggling." Another quipped, "Again, Trump has more oil coming off his face than there is going through the Strait of Hormuz."

During the service, Trump delivered a eulogy where he joked about revealing Graham's phone number at a 2015 rally. "His phone exploded," he said, before repeating the number for anyone who wanted to "give it a shot."

He reminisced about their friendship, saying, "It was Lindsey who had the last laugh because while I blew up his phone all for one day, we became great friends, and Lindsey did not stop calling me for the next 10 years. It was not easy."

Trump characterized Graham as a "tough cookie" who "never saw a war he didn’t like." He added that despite political differences, "virtually everyone, Republican or Democrat, liked Lindsey."

He acknowledged, "Well, not everybody, but it sounds good. Not everybody." He continued to praise Graham's character, stating, "He was a tough cookie, Darline, but he was beautiful. I will tell you, he never saw a war that he didn’t like."

Trump reflected on Graham's legacy as a "respected statesman, a giant of the United States Senate and a true American original." He noted that Graham was "the first person to make you laugh and one of the last people that you really ever wanted to fight."

In closing, Trump said, "As a brother, a senator, a warrior, and a patriot, he withstood every last test, every single test that you can go through in every trial... Lindsey, we love you. God bless you."

Lindsey Graham was a prominent Republican figure in Washington and served as a long-time US Senator for South Carolina. He passed away from an aortic dissection caused by cardiovascular disease on July 11. He was known for his hardline stances on abortion rights, immigration policies, and traditional Republican tax-cutting agendas.
