Jessi Pierce Captured Joyful Moments with Her Kids Just Before Tragedy

Mar 23 2026

On March 20, just hours before tragedy struck, Jessi Pierce, a well-known NHL reporter, posted joyful snapshots of her children on social media. The images depicted her three kids indulging in ice cream and enjoying a sunny day, a stark contrast to the heartbreaking events that unfolded the following day.

Pierce, 37, lost her life alongside her three children—Hudson, Cayden, and Avery—and the family dog in a house fire that occurred early Saturday morning, March 21. The news of their passing was confirmed by the NHL on March 22, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. “The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences to the Pierce family on the passing of Jessi Pierce and her three young children,” the league stated. “Jessi loved our game and was a valued member of the NHL.com team for a decade. We will miss her terribly.”

Firefighters from the White Bear Lake Fire Department responded to an emergency call at approximately 5:25 a.m. on Saturday. Fire Chief Greg Peterson reported that neighbors had alerted authorities after witnessing flames erupting from the roof of the residence. Upon arrival, crews encountered a fully engulfed structure and initiated fire suppression efforts. Tragically, they discovered the bodies of an adult and three children inside.

“We ask for the opportunity to allow our community to come together and support one another during this difficult time,” the fire department's statement urged.

Jessi Pierce had dedicated the last ten seasons to reporting for NHL.com and contributed significantly to coverage of the Minnesota Wild. She also co-hosted the “Bardown Beauties” podcast with Kirsten Krull, a fellow sports broadcaster.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram, Krull reflected on their bond, stating, “Family isn’t always blood, but the people you choose and that couldn’t have been more true. Jessi was like another big sister to me.” Accompanying her words were images capturing their shared moments of joy with family.

Krull continued, “She had a confidence and a way of being able to talk to anyone that I envied. She had an unmatched work ethic and a huge heart. Any time I needed help, needed to rant, or needed someone she was there without hesitation. Most importantly, she was the best mom and loved her kids and family fiercely.”
