John Kerry Obliterates Trump's Iran Strategy and FBI Chief's Drinking Allegations in One Swift Move

Apr 23 2026

During a recent appearance on “The Late Show,” John Kerry, former diplomat and Democratic presidential hopeful, delivered a sharp critique of President Donald Trump’s approach to Iran and the controversy surrounding FBI Director Kash Patel’s alleged drinking habits.

Engaging with host Stephen Colbert, Kerry dismissed Trump’s premature claims of a peace deal being “FAR BETTER” than the 2015 nuclear agreement he negotiated under President Obama. “It’s absurd,” he remarked, emphasizing that Trump’s withdrawal from the deal made conflict “inevitable,” stripping Iran of any opportunity to pursue a different path.

“Before the U.S. began its military actions, access to the Strait of Hormuz was not an issue,” Kerry pointed out, highlighting the consequences of aggressive foreign policy. Colbert, feigning disbelief, questioned, “Is starting with an act of war really the best way to initiate peace talks?”

“No, obviously not,” Kerry replied, adding that Trump’s current actions might jeopardize his FIFA World Peace Prize. The audience chuckled at the absurdity of the situation.

Colbert interjected, humorously admonishing Kerry not to joke about the award, which he described as “sacred,” given that it has only been conferred upon Trump.

Kerry then seamlessly transitioned to critique both Trump and Patel, stating, “The bottom line is that the U.S. would be better off if neither Iran nor Kash Patel were under fire.”

Patel has faced scrutiny over allegations of excessive drinking and poor leadership at the FBI, as detailed in a recent article by a prominent publication. In response to these claims, Patel filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against the magazine and its writer on Monday, despite the filing being riddled with typographical errors.
