Jon Stewart Eviscerates Mitch McConnell, Calls Him a "Make-A-Wish Kid" After Hospitalization

Jon Stewart unleashed a brutal tirade against Mitch McConnell, mocking the senator's recent hospitalization and the accompanying photo that was shared.

McConnell, aged 84, has been under intense scrutiny regarding his health after being hospitalized on June 14 for an unspecified medical issue. This marked his second trip to the hospital in 2023, following a previous stay in February for "flu-like" symptoms. On July 12, CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins reported that McConnell had been "briefly unconscious" before being taken to the hospital.

A photo of McConnell alongside his wife, Elaine Chao, was circulated to demonstrate he was recovering. Stewart seized the opportunity during his hosting of The Daily Show on July 13, suggesting that McConnell resembled a "Make-A-Wish kid" in the image.

Stewart expressed disbelief that McConnell had outlived Lindsey Graham, who passed away on July 11. He remarked, "McConnell was the one who spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals since his Capitol Hill buffering episodes."

He continued, "McConnell was the one who suddenly disappeared for a month and nobody heard from him, to the point where the governor of his own state was asking for proof of life, which coincidentally, we got yesterday."

Stewart presented the photo of McConnell with his wife, declaring, "Ladies and gentlemen, I give you totally believable evidence that Mitch McConnell is not only alive, but the happiest boy in the hospital!"

He added, "That’s the smile of a Make-A-Wish kid whose wish was that everyone else in the hospital lost their health insurance due to his f---ing policies." The audience erupted in applause.

Stewart continued his mockery, stating, "After that, of course, Mitch and his wife released even more photos. Here they are at Disney riding Splash Mountain." An AI-generated image appeared on screen depicting McConnell and his wife on the ride.

He further joked about the couple's supposed adventures: "And apparently they climbed the spire of the Empire State Building and renewed their vows," as another AI image showed them at the iconic landmark.

A third AI-generated photo depicted Mitch and his wife at a World Cup match, with the grim reaper lurking in the background. Stewart quipped, "Let’s say they went to a World Cup game," eliciting laughter from the audience. He added ominously, "Might not be out of the woods yet."

Following his hospital visit, McConnell issued a statement clarifying his condition: "My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia."
