Kaitlan Collins Obliterates Trump’s Vandalism Claims with Cold, Hard Evidence

Jun 25 2026

President Donald Trump’s outrageous claims about vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool face brutal exposure from CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, who laid bare the absurdity of his assertions regarding algae blooms, peeling paint, and dead ducks.

On “The Source With Kaitlan Collins,” she resurrected a clip of Trump boasting about the pool’s durability, claiming his multimillion-dollar renovations made it so tough that not even a knife could inflict damage. “This will last for at least 50 years. You’ll never have a leak,” he declared, asserting its strength and beauty.

Collins countered Trump’s latest claims by airing footage of him alleging that defacers inflicted “real horrible stuff” on the new “American flag blue” lining, yet he provided zero evidence to substantiate his wild accusations.

“Somebody went in with a knife and cut it. They cut it up good,” Trump said, describing a supposed 200-350-foot slip without any proof. His Truth Social post echoed these vandalism claims, further muddying the waters.

Collins swiftly dismantled Trump’s mixed messaging, emphasizing that unlike him, she presented actual evidence. “There are not pictures or video from the Interior Department officials or the Park Police showing someone making a cut in the pool,” she stated after playing the clip.

She reinforced her argument by referencing The New York Times’ reporting, which revealed government documents indicating no intentional cause for the peeling paint and algae blooms. The facts contradicted Trump’s narrative.

In his Tuesday Truth Social post, Trump mentioned plans to partially drain the pool “either immediately before or after the Fourth of July” for repairs. He also claimed that six people were arrested and seven cited for damage to the Reflecting Pool.

Collins took a jab at Trump, noting his obsession with the Reflecting Pool rivaled his posts about Iran this week. “That announcement was one of four posts we saw from the President about the Reflecting Pool since about 8:00 p.m. last night, almost as many as he has posted about Iran,” she pointed out.

Her fact-checking came after a HuffPost reporter inspected the pool and found no evidence of a gash. Trump later followed up his Truth Social post with an image claiming to show the pool before it was refilled with water, stating, “This is the hard rubber surface — No Paint — Before the Vandals cut and pulled it apart!”
