Kamala Harris Unleashes Fury on Supreme Court for 'Sneaky Racism' Tactics

May 14 2026

“They’re backdooring racism through politics!” Kamala Harris didn’t hold back on Wednesday, unleashing a fiery critique of the Supreme Court’s recent decision that allows states to wipe out Black-majority districts. Speaking with the progressive group Emerge, she slammed the ruling as a blatant attempt to suppress the voices of marginalized communities.

The fallout from the court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais is already being felt across the South, where Republican-led states are racing to dismantle Black-majority congressional seats. With all six justices appointed by Republicans backing this decision, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 has been effectively gutted, prioritizing partisan interests over racial equity. “Intentional discrimination? Good luck proving that in court,” Harris pointed out, highlighting the uphill battle ahead for those seeking justice.

In Tennessee, the GOP wasted no time, slicing up Memphis into three solidly Republican districts, obliterating the state’s only Black-majority district. Louisiana Republicans followed suit, pushing through a new map that erased one of two Black-majority districts while canceling an ongoing primary election. Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina are next in line for similar maneuvers.

Harris urged those who oppose this assault on civil rights to not just march but to think big—“bold” political reforms are necessary, she insisted. “Let’s talk about Supreme Court reform, maybe even expanding the court,” she declared. “What about pushing for statehood for Puerto Rico and D.C.? How do we rethink the Electoral College?”

The pressure for reform has been mounting since Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death and Trump’s appointment of Amy Coney Barrett right before the 2020 election. The conservative supermajority has been hammering away at hard-won rights for women, racial minorities, and LGBTQ individuals ever since. Harris’ comments signal a shift in perspective for the Black community—no longer viewing the court as a guardian of rights but as a political player intent on rolling back progress.

According to Harris, the Callais decision is part of a Republican strategy to “cheat” their way to victory in the 2026 midterms. “People are watching gas prices soar, an unwanted war unfold, and inflation rise,” she said. “They know they’re losing ground in the midterms.”

With Trump pushing Republicans to eliminate Democratic seats through mid-decade redistricting, Harris warned that dismantling Black-majority districts could tip the scales in favor of GOP control over the House. The stakes couldn’t be higher as these political games threaten to silence the voices of millions.
