Kimmel's Dark Humor Hits a Sour Note as Giuliani Faces Hospitalization

May 04 2026

Jimmy Kimmel took a jab at Rudy Giuliani, quipping about the former NYC mayor rising from “the grave” just days before Giuliani was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

“So last night, America’s mayor, Rudy Giuliani, rose from the grave to weigh in on the ongoing drama involving me,” Kimmel said during his Tuesday monologue, referencing his previous ill-timed quip about Melania Trump looking like an “expectant widow” shortly before an assassination attempt on her husband at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Kimmel aired a clip of Giuliani, 81, slamming him on his podcast, calling the talk show host “one of the most distasteful human beings in this country.”

“It hurts to be called distasteful by a man who farted his own pants off in front of Borat’s daughter,” Kimmel shot back, clearly unfazed.

Giuliani continued his tirade, criticizing Kimmel for pretending to host the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, claiming he bombed it “like usual” and that only “about four people probably watched it.”

“This is supposed to be a comedian,” Giuliani raged. “He’s also like an incompetent jacka—.”

Kimmel didn’t hold back: “It’s confusing to be called an incompetent jacka— by a man who accidentally held a press conference outside a dildo store and has a gallon of squid ink dribbling off the top of his head.”

“Does this man have any family members who can come get him already?” Kimmel added, clearly relishing the back-and-forth.

Fast forward five days, and Giuliani found himself hospitalized in critical but stable condition for an undisclosed ailment, according to a spokesperson.

“Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition,” the spokesperson confirmed.

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak. We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s mayor — Rudy Giuliani,” they added.

Kimmel was already under fire for his earlier joke about Melania Trump, which she deemed offensive after her husband was targeted by a gunman at the same event.

Melania, 56, demanded Kimmel’s ouster via social media on Monday, following the assassination attempt on her husband and members of his administration.

A spokesman for Melania reiterated the call for Kimmel’s termination on Tuesday. “Kimmel should be terminated. ABC should fire him now,” Marc Beckman stated after Kimmel doubled down on his joke during Monday night’s show.
