Megyn Kelly Slams Trump for Demanding Kimmel's Firing After Her Own Kimmel Rant

May 03 2026

Megyn Kelly is throwing shade at President Trump for his demand that ABC fire Jimmy Kimmel over a tasteless joke about Melania Trump, just days after she herself ripped into Kimmel. Talk about a plot twist!

Kimmel sparked outrage among Trump supporters when he quipped that Melania had the “glow of an expectant widow” right before a gunman crashed the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25. The backlash was swift and fierce.

Trump took to Truth Social, unleashing a tirade against Kimmel: “I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence... Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.” His words dripped with indignation.

But Kimmel wasn’t backing down. On his show, he defended his jab as merely a light roast about the couple’s age gap, insisting it was “not, by any stretch of the definition, a call to assassination.”

Then came Kelly’s unexpected critique. On The Megyn Kelly Show, she labeled Trump’s attack on Kimmel as “very inappropriate.” She stated, “The president of the United States should not be calling for any private company to fire any employee, especially over free speech.”

Just days prior, Kelly had unleashed her own vitriol on Kimmel, accusing him of never missing “a moment to be crass.” She questioned, “For this guy to get up there and say she’s ‘got the glow of an expectant widow,’ like how insensitive can you be?”

Kelly didn’t hold back, either. “Honestly, Donald Trump, he’s got children, he’s got grandchildren. He does have a wife, and he has millions of people who love him. And the ‘glow of an expectant widow.’ How sick are you? Truly the left and the de-sensitivity that they’re trying to create in people to the thought of political violence is truly pernicious. It’s a force for evil in this country.”

She ended her rant with a pointed question: “What are you going to do about it, ABC?”

Fast forward to April 2024, and Kelly revealed she voted for Trump in 2020 and plans to do so again in 2024, despite their rocky history. But earlier this year, she turned on him over his aggressive stance toward Iran.

Interestingly, Kelly isn’t alone in her unexpected support for Kimmel. Republican Senator Ted Cruz chimed in, stating, “It is not the government's job to censor speech, and I do not believe the FCC should operate as the speech police.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the FCC launched an early review of eight ABC TV licenses held by Disney to investigate if they violated any “prohibition on unlawful discrimination.”

Trump-appointed FCC chairman Brendan Carr denied any connection between the review and Trump’s comments, claiming it was part of an ongoing DEI investigation. “This was based on DEI conduct, not speech,” Carr asserted. “The FCC has rules on the books.”
