Gavin Newsom Slams Trump as a 'Man-Child' While Defending His Social Media Jabs
California Governor Gavin Newsom didn’t hold back during his fiery appearance on Bill Maher’s “Real Time,” where he defended his relentless social media trolling of former President Donald Trump. Instead of confirming his intentions for the 2028 Democratic nomination, Newsom took the opportunity to unleash a barrage of criticism against Trump, labeling him a “man-child.”
On Friday night, Maher confronted Newsom about his provocative online antics, suggesting that the governor was mimicking Trump’s notorious style by suing Fox News for defamation. “You’re suing Fox now, I understand. That sounds exactly like what he does,” Maher quipped, trying to draw a parallel between the two.
Newsom shot back, insisting he’s not imitating Trump but merely holding up a “mirror” to the absurdity of the former president’s behavior. “Fox better look to settle right now or apologize for defamation,” he declared, emphasizing that the current political landscape is anything but normal.
“The deviation of normalcy is off the chart,” Newsom continued, painting a vivid picture of Trump’s antics. “This is a guy cosplaying as the pope, dressing up as Jesus, this guy is putting his face on Mount Rushmore, doing it in all caps. None of this is normal.”
As the conversation heated up, Maher attempted to steer Newsom back to the topic of his potential presidential run. “Well, they will pick out things like that in the campaign and use them against you,” Maher warned, clearly eager to get a rise out of the governor.
Newsom wasn’t having it. “What campaign do you keep referring to?” he shot back, deflecting Maher’s probing questions with ease.
Maher pressed on, stating, “You are officially the frontrunner; I mean, they do polling, and you are the frontrunner for the Democratic Party. That’s just a fact.” The tension in the room was palpable as Newsom continued to sidestep any direct acknowledgment of his political ambitions.
With each exchange, it became clear that while Newsom may be playing coy about his future plans, he’s not afraid to take shots at Trump and the chaotic political climate. Watch an excerpt from Maher’s interview with Newsom here:
