In his final days, Busch was all about family. His last Instagram post celebrated Brexton’s 11th birthday on May 18. “Happy Birthday Brexton!!!” he wrote, sharing a carousel of family photos. “Your mom & I are so proud of who you’re turning out to be! You’re the best kid on & off the track, you amaze us every day.”

Just days earlier, on May 10, he also honored his daughter Lennix with a heartfelt birthday message. “Happy Birthday to our crazy Lennix,” he posted. “You keep us laughing and somehow make every day brighter. I’m lucky to do life with you girls.”

Busch was still in the race game, competing in the NASCAR All-Star Race on May 17 at Dover International Speedway. Just two days prior, he clinched victory in the EcoSave 200 truck series. Reflecting on his career, he told reporters, “You never know when the last one is.”

However, his health took a turn for the worse shortly after. His family announced via social media that he had been hospitalized due to a severe illness. “Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization,” they stated on May 21. “He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.”

Busch was set to race in the Coca-Cola 600 on May 24, but his team quickly announced that Austin Hill would take over his spot. “Kyle Busch’s health is our utmost priority,” Richard Childress Racing declared. “We’re thankful to Austin Hill for stepping in to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet this weekend.”

The racing world is now left to mourn a true icon whose legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of fans and fellow racers alike.
