Lake Party Shooting Near Oklahoma City Leaves 13 Wounded in Chaos
Edmund, Oklahoma — Chaos erupted Sunday night at a lakeside bash near Oklahoma City when gunfire shattered the festivities, leaving at least 13 people injured and scrambling for safety.
Reports of shots rang out around 9 p.m. during a gathering of young revelers at Arcadia Lake, according to Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward. As of late Sunday, no suspects had been apprehended.
"This is obviously a very terrifying situation," Ward stated, acknowledging the public's fears. "We are working extremely hard to find the suspects." The police are canvassing the metro area, interviewing victims and witnesses in a frantic search for answers.
Ward confirmed that ten individuals were transported to hospitals, while others made their own way to seek medical attention. The conditions of the victims vary, adding to the urgency of the situation.
The shooting unfolded in a densely wooded area, complicating the investigation as night fell. Authorities planned to remain on-site until dawn, sifting through the scene for crucial evidence.
While police have kept details about the party under wraps, a flyer circulating on social media hinted at an event dubbed "Sunday Funday" taking place that evening.
As of Monday morning, ten victims were being treated at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, with three others at Integris Health Edmond Hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.
In response to the chaos, police established a reunification center for concerned families at a nearby Walmart.
Arcadia Lake, located about 13 miles north of Oklahoma City, is a man-made reservoir known for its recreational activities like fishing, boating, and camping. This suburb of Edmond has a population of around 100,000 residents.
Interestingly, Edmond holds a dark history; it was the site of one of the deadliest workplace shootings in U.S. history four decades ago when postal worker Patrick Sherrill killed 14 co-workers before taking his own life on August 20, 1986.
