Laura Loomer Grilled Over Anti-Indian Remarks During New Delhi Visit

Mar 15 2026

During a recent event in New Delhi, Laura Loomer, known for her right-wing views and ties to former President Donald Trump, found herself on the defensive as a journalist confronted her with her own disparaging tweets about India.

At the India Today Conclave, journalist Rajdeep Sardesai presented a collection of Loomer's deleted tweets that criticized India and its citizens. Despite her attempts to erase the posts before her arrival, they had been archived by others.

In a surprising moment, Loomer claimed to have just spoken with Trump, sharing a message she attributed to him: "I love India. I love Modi and I love the Indian people," she stated.

The conversation quickly shifted to her controversial views on Islam, particularly given that Muslims make up about 15 percent of India's population, approximately 205 million individuals. Loomer reiterated her belief that "Islam is a cancer on the world" and dismissed the notion of Islamophobia as nonexistent.

"It should be illegal in the United States for Muslims to hold office," she declared, drawing sharp reactions from the audience.

When pressed about her previous comments regarding India, Loomer appeared to soften her stance, admitting, "I shouldn't have said some of the things that I said ... and I apologize if my remarks offended people."

However, she maintained her critical view of the H-1B visa program, which many Indian nationals utilize to enter the U.S. "My job is to speak for Americans and to stand up for American interests," she asserted, claiming that immigration laws have been exploited.

As the discussion progressed, Sardesai confronted Loomer with a tweet from 2024 where she suggested that if Kamala Harris became president, the White House would "smell like curry." He accused her of being "brazenly racist and Islamophobic," stating that her comments reflected "anti-Indianism" and racism that should not be tolerated.

Loomer countered by insisting that Islamophobia was a myth, arguing that the religion "explicitly calls for the killing of non-Muslims." She expressed concern for non-Muslims, stating that “everybody who is not a Muslim should really honestly be fearful of this ideology.”

She also attempted to frame her comments about Harris as "pro-Indian," suggesting they were aimed at criticizing Harris for allegedly downplaying her Indian heritage during her campaign.

Despite the backlash, Loomer showed no signs of changing her rhetoric. Later that day, she shared a video purportedly showing Muslims in India surrounding a Sikh restaurant and demanding halal food. In her post, she questioned Sardesai directly: "Are you ok with this @sardesairajdeep? Should Muslims be allowed to terrorize Sikhs who refuse to sell halal food?"

Loomer is among several MAGA figures who have ramped up anti-Islam rhetoric, coinciding with heightened tensions following U.S. military actions in Iran. This surge in inflammatory statements has been linked to a series of violent incidents across the U.S., which the FBI is investigating as potentially motivated by these geopolitical conflicts.

Recently, Senator Tommy Tuberville faced accusations of Islamophobia after he shared an image juxtaposing New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani breaking his Ramadan fast with images from the 9/11 attacks, stating, "the enemy is inside the gates."

The ongoing controversy surrounding Loomer continues to draw attention as she remains a polarizing figure within political discourse.
