Lawmaker Reveals Trump Meeting Invite Was Buried in Spam
Ohio Representative Joyce Beatty has come forward with an unexpected revelation: her invitation to a pivotal meeting regarding the Kennedy Center's future was inadvertently sent to her spam folder. This admission follows her earlier accusations against Donald Trump, claiming he had denied her access to the meeting.
Beatty, who is actively pursuing legal action against the administration's plans to close and renovate the iconic arts venue, initially asserted that she was blocked from attending the March 16 meeting. However, her legal team clarified in a statement, “Plaintiff appreciates Defendants’ confirmation that she can attend the meeting at the White House. Upon further investigation, it appears that the email regarding the Board meeting was routed to Plaintiff’s spam folder.”
The congresswoman's lawsuit aims to secure a temporary restraining order to halt the Kennedy Center's closure, which could lead to performance cancellations, staff layoffs, and even potential demolition of the historic site. Trump has previously labeled the center as “tired, broken and dilapidated,” announcing a two-year closure to expedite construction—a move Beatty has condemned as “lawless.”

Despite acknowledging the mix-up regarding her invitation, Beatty's lawyers emphasized that she had reached out to the General Counsel for the center after failing to locate the email but received no response for two days. “As a result, Plaintiff had reason to believe Defendants—who had already silenced her in the December meeting—had excluded her from the upcoming meeting,” they stated. “Regardless, in any event, her being ‘permitted to attend’ does not come anywhere close to remediating her harms.”
Legally, several members of Congress must sit on the Kennedy Center board, and Beatty holds an “ex officio” position. Her lawsuit was filed shortly after the board voted to include Trump’s name and alter the signage, a decision she and others opposed, arguing it required Congressional approval. Her legal representatives contend that she was previously barred from voting on this name change and fear a similar exclusion may occur on March 16.
“The stakes could not be higher. I am asking the Court to prevent President Trump from doing to the Kennedy Center what he did to the East Wing of the White House just a few months ago,” Beatty declared in a statement last week.
