Maddow Shares Her Hypothetical Interview Questions for Trump

Apr 04 2026

On Thursday, Rachel Maddow joined hosts Symone Sanders-Townsend and Eugene Daniels on their podcast, “Clock It With Symone & Eugene,” where she shared some humorous yet pointed inquiries she would pose to former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical interview.

During the conversation, which explored the complexities of covering Trump’s second term, Daniels remarked on the challenge of maintaining optimism in such a politically charged environment. Maddow responded candidly about her perceptions of the former president.

“I can’t claim to know what’s happening in Donald Trump’s mind, but over the last decade, it seems clear that his primary desire is to be the center of attention,” Maddow stated, reflecting on Trump’s media presence.

When asked what she would inquire if given the chance to interview him, Maddow quipped, “I might ask him, ‘Is Africa a country?’ or ‘How many R’s are in “strawberry”?’” Her lighthearted approach elicited laughter from Sanders-Townsend and Daniels.

Despite her comedic tone, Maddow expressed a lack of personal interest in Trump as an individual, labeling him the “archetype” of a “classic stereotypical wannabe strongman.” She continued with her playful questioning, suggesting a cognitive test: “Who is the president of Mexico? Who’s your labor secretary? Who was your third wife?”

Maddow emphasized her disinterest in Trump’s public statements and media appearances, stating, “I don’t care to see him stumble through interactions with reporters or make nonsensical comments about international conflicts.”

Trump’s contradictory statements regarding his policies and leadership style have drawn mixed reactions. While some find humor in his antics, Maddow remains critical. She pointed out that Trump’s actions following the 2020 election, including the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and his ongoing claims about running for a third term, pose serious implications for democracy.

“I’m deeply concerned about whether our nation will remain a constitutional republic,” Maddow asserted. “What Trump says daily is irrelevant to that reality. His goal appears to be dismantling our constitutional framework.”

She concluded by stressing the importance of collective action to counteract Trump’s influence: “The key issue is how we as a country respond to prevent him from succeeding.”
