Madonna's Blunt Demand: 'Put Your F****** Phone Down'

Jun 07 2026

Madonna, at 67, is not holding back. She demands fans drop their phones and engage with reality as she readies her fifteenth studio album.

During the Tribeca Film Festival, she unveiled the visualizer for her upcoming LP, Confessions II, a follow-up to her 2005 classic, Confessions on a Dance Floor.

She declared the visual is "really about connection," a theme she insists will resonate through her music.

The Material Girl stated, "I don’t want to make mindless music." She aims for substance in her work.

Madonna emphasized the power of dance music: "It makes you move your body, and you feel the pulse." She believes it fosters a connection to the universe and to others.

Her message is clear: absorb life around you. "The movie’s really about connection," she explained. "I emerge from my solitude of this apartment and go right into a forest with people with lasers coming out of their ****."

She urged, "You just really go through life, take risks, be curious, be observant. … And put your f****** phones down and connect."

This plea follows her experience at Coachella, where she struggled to engage with fans who were too busy filming her performance.

Madonna lamented, "Everybody had their phones up [and] I didn’t know what anyone looked like."

The 13-minute film premieres on YouTube on Monday, showcasing the first six tracks from her album set to drop on July 3. It features appearances from Sabrina Carpenter, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Moss, Julia Garner, Richard E. Grant, and her daughter Lourdes Leon.

On Thursday, she teased the album with a live performance in Times Square.

“I want to make music that’s about something,” she reiterated.
