MAGA Outrage Erupts Over Influencer Couple's Pregnancy Termination After Down Syndrome Diagnosis

Influencer Jesse Ridgway, known as McJuggerNuggets, ignited a firestorm on X after revealing he and his wife, Ashley, terminated a pregnancy due to a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome.

Ridgway laid out a grim list of potential challenges associated with Down syndrome, citing heart defects in 50% of cases, hearing issues in 75%, and various other health complications. He claimed these factors made the termination beneficial for his family.

His post drew immediate backlash from the MAGA community, with Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson labeling their decision as “evil,” while asserting that “EVERY SINGLE PERSON has inestimable DIGNITY and VALUE.”

Abby Johnson, an anti-abortion activist who previously had two abortions, condemned the couple’s choice, stating that not wanting to care for a child with long-term needs is “not an excuse.”

Despite their public stance, MAGA supporters advocate for women to give birth to children with disabilities while simultaneously dismantling support systems for those very individuals. Under the Trump administration, Medicaid funding faced severe cuts, threatening access to medical care for millions of disabled Americans.

Ridgway’s comments prompted responses from adults with Down syndrome. GiGi Gianni, an advocate, emphasized her life’s value, stating, “My life does have value…I am not a mistake.” Grace Strobel, a model with Down syndrome, highlighted that nearly 99% of individuals with Down syndrome reported happiness in their lives.

Ridgway’s assertion that raising a child with disabilities is “objectively shitty” sparked outrage. Many parents of children with disabilities argue that the real challenges stem from societal attitudes and policy failures rather than the disabilities themselves.

Elena Hung, co-founder of Little Lobbists, expressed concern over Ridgway’s views, urging him to recognize the existence and value of people with disabilities. She criticized the MAGA community for their contradictory stance on supporting families while undermining essential services.
