Majority of Americans Reject Trump’s Extravagant UFC Birthday Bash

A staggering 40 percent of Americans strongly disapprove of President Donald Trump’s UFC birthday fight outside the White House, with another 11 percent somewhat disapproving, according to a recent YouGov survey.

Dubbed UFC Freedom 250, the event is set for June 14 on the South Lawn, coinciding with Trump’s 80th birthday. The fight card is marketed as part of the celebrations for America’s 250th birthday.

Only 15 percent of respondents somewhat approved of the fight, while a mere 12 percent expressed strong support. A significant 22 percent remained uncertain about their stance.

Construction of a massive UFC stage, known as “The Claw,” began last month. Trump hinted that this colossal structure could remain in place indefinitely.

Images of the South Lawn reveal the red, white, and blue canopy looming over the presidential residence.

The UFC is reportedly footing the bill for the event, which will feature a lightweight title bout between champion Ilia Topuria and interim champion Justin Gaethje on the main card.

Trump, who maintains a friendship with UFC president Dana White, has labeled the fight as the “greatest show on Earth,” boasting an estimated 4,000 seats available for spectators on the South Lawn.

Sponsorship packages, which include ringside tickets, are selling for $1 million or more, according to a Republican lobbyist familiar with the situation.

Trump’s extravagant birthday fight has drawn invitations extended to high-profile figures like former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and actor-wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Meanwhile, everyday Americans grapple with soaring living costs. US troops will receive tickets to the event but must meet specific physical standards to attend.

In April, inflation surged to 3.8 percent, marking the highest level since 2023. Energy costs also rose by 3.8 percent from March as the ongoing Iran war exacerbated economic pressures.

This conflict, initiated by Trump alongside Israel in late February, led to skyrocketing gas prices after Iran retaliated by closing the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil passageway in the Middle East.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy faced backlash from Democratic senators for promoting summer road trips amid high gas prices. Duffy defended his upcoming corporate-sponsored road trip reality show featuring his family on a cross-country vacation.

“Experiencing your country through the window of a car is a beautiful thing. It actually unites America,” he stated before the Senate Appropriations subcommittee last month.

Senator Patty Murray criticized Duffy’s comments as “out of touch” during the hearing.

A Quinnipiac University poll released last month revealed that 68 percent of voters believe Trump is not adequately addressing their pressing issues, while only 29 percent think he is focused on them.

"Has the president taken his eye off domestic concerns? Voters suggest it's time to look homeward," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.
