Marco Rubio Compares UFC to Moon Landing: MS NOW Host Left Speechless

Jun 13 2026

Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, made a jaw-dropping comparison between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the moon landing, leaving MS NOW host Jonathan Capehart in disbelief. This bizarre analogy came just before a massive mixed martial arts event scheduled for Sunday at the White House.

“This week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the spectacle, calling it a gift to the American people,” Capehart stated on “The Weekend.” He emphasized the absurdity of Rubio's remarks, urging viewers to hear the comparison for themselves.

Capehart then played Rubio’s comments from Thursday. “When President Kennedy announced that we were gonna put a man on the moon and return him safely to the Earth, no one thought that was possible, and we did it,” Rubio declared. He continued, “We are a nation founded on doing what no one else dared to do, and no one else aspired to do. And at some level, that’s what this whole company, what UFC has been.”

Rubio's comments coincided with the signing of a partnership deal between the White House and the UFC, gearing up for an event tied to the United States’ 250th anniversary celebration. The cage fights are set to occur on Flag Day, June 14, which also marks President Donald Trump’s birthday.

Instead of elaborating further, Capehart chose to let Rubio’s words speak for themselves. “I’mma just leave that alone,” he concluded.
