Marjorie Taylor Greene Questions Trump Assassination Attempt Details

Apr 19 2026

Marjorie Taylor Greene has raised eyebrows by questioning the circumstances surrounding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, asserting that he should be at the forefront of uncovering “the truth” about the incident.

On Saturday, Greene shared a post from Trisha Hope, a self-identified “J6 activist,” who expressed skepticism regarding the July 2024 assassination attempt during a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. Hope pointed out peculiarities, such as a well-timed photograph of Trump and his reluctance to discuss the event in detail.

Hope further claimed that Corey Comperatore, the sole fatality in the incident while protecting his family, was killed to lend credence to a narrative that some might otherwise dismiss as a hoax.

“Extremely important post worth the read and consideration,” Greene commented on X. “Corey Comperatore’s family deserves to know the truth about Matthew Crooks and what happened in Butler on July 13, 2024. President Trump, of all people, should be leading the charge. Why isn’t he? That’s the question.”

In a subsequent post, Greene clarified her stance, stating she does not believe the assassination attempt was fabricated but questioned why Trump has not disclosed more information about the shooter.

Her remarks follow a Wired article highlighting a growing belief among some Trump supporters that the assassination attempt was staged. Notable figures like comedian Tom Dillon and right-wing commentators Tucker Carlson, Emerald Robinson, and Candace Owens have propagated theories suggesting the shooting is not what it appears.

Representatives Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) and Pat Fallon (R-Texas) alleged last year that the FBI obstructed the House investigation into the shooting. The FBI's final report concluded that the shooter acted independently.

Trump has remained relatively reserved about the incident, stating in a 2025 BBC interview that he prefers not to “dwell” on it. At the 2024 Republican National Convention, he was seen with a bandage on his ear, which had been grazed by a bullet. Following his re-election, the White House replaced a portrait of Barack Obama with an iconic image captured moments after the shooting, featuring Trump with his fist raised.
