Marjorie Taylor Greene Slams Trump Admin as 'Deceitful Liars' Amid GOP Split Over Iran Offensive
Early Saturday, the U.S. launched a joint military operation with Israel targeting Iran, igniting a rift within the Republican Party. While some members lauded President Donald Trump, others voiced concerns about the potential for escalating into a foreign conflict.
“I am opposed to this War. This is not ‘America First,’” stated Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) on X, emphasizing the need for a congressional vote on military engagement. “The Constitution requires a vote, and your Representative needs to be on record as opposing or supporting this war.”
In a significant announcement, Trump declared that the U.S. had initiated “major combat operations in Iran,” a campaign dubbed “Operation Epic Fury” by the defense department.
Trump appeared to advocate for regime change, urging the Iranian populace to “take over” their government, which he accused of advancing its nuclear ambitions aimed at the U.S.
“My administration is taking every possible step to minimize the risk to U.S. personnel in the region. Even so, and I do not make this statement lightly, the Iranian regime seeks to kill,” Trump remarked. “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war. But we’re doing this not for now. We’re doing this for the future. And it is a noble mission.”
This declaration drew backlash from conservatives who champion the “America First” ideology.
Former Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene unleashed a barrage of criticism on X, targeting the Trump administration for its perceived betrayal of its promises to prioritize American interests.
“The Trump admin actually asked in a poll how many casualties voters were willing to accept in a war with Iran??? How about ZERO you bunch of sick fucking liars. We voted for America First and ZERO wars,” she expressed vehemently.
Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson echoed her sentiments, labeling the military action as “absolutely disgusting and evil,” according to reports.
Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) condemned what he termed “yet another preemptive war” in the Middle East, reiterating that Congress holds the constitutional authority to declare war to prevent unnecessary conflicts.
“As with all war, my first and purest instinct is wish Americans soldiers safety and success in their mission,” Paul articulated. “But my oath of office is to the Constitution, so with studied care, I must oppose another Presidential war.”
Conversely, several GOP members rallied behind Trump, commending his address and the military operation.
Senator Lindsey Graham proclaimed that Trump’s speech would be remembered as a pivotal moment in Middle Eastern history.
“I echo President Trump’s call to the Iranian military, IRGC and security forces to lay down their arms. I echo his call to the Iranian people to take back their government,” Graham asserted. “President Trump was right when he said he’s the first president in 47 years to stand with the people of Iran and give them the backing they need.”
Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) expressed unwavering support for the operation on X, describing it as “a defining moment of generational leadership from President Trump to achieve sustainable peace.”
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) remarked, “History will record this night.”
“President Trump understood what the weak could not bring themselves to say: that peace is not found in appeasement - it is won,” she concluded.
