Washington — A humanoid robot made history Wednesday by escorting the First Lady of the United States at the White House, marking a significant moment in the intersection of technology and education.
During the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit, Melania Trump presented the idea of AI robots as "personalized" educators for American children, emphasizing their potential to enhance learning experiences at home. She highlighted that these advanced systems can not only deliver extensive knowledge but also foster "deep critical thinking and independent reasoning abilities," allowing children to pursue a "more well-rounded lifestyle" while engaging in various activities.
"The future of AI is personified," she stated, seated next to French First Lady Brigitte Macron and other global leaders' spouses. "It will take human-like forms. Soon, artificial intelligence will transition from our mobile devices to humanoids that provide practical benefits. Given that our environment is tailored for humans, humanoid systems are ideally equipped to navigate and function within it."
She elaborated on this vision with an example: "Imagine a humanoid educator named Plato. Instant access to classical studies—literature, science, art, philosophy, mathematics, and history—will be at your fingertips. Plato will offer a tailored educational experience, adapting to each student's unique needs. Always patient and available, this AI-powered educator will enhance analytical skills and problem-solving abilities while adjusting in real-time to a student's pace and emotional state. The result? A more balanced lifestyle for our children, allowing them time for friendships, sports, and personal interests."
While praising tech giants like Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Google Zoom, and Adobe as catalysts for innovation, she cautioned that the safety of future generations must remain a priority. "We must balance optimism with caution," she warned.
Trump further asserted the necessity of integrating robots into children's lives, stating that America has a responsibility to cultivate the most technologically fluent and educated generation globally. "By doing so, we will ensure long-term economic superiority," she declared. "This will drive GDP growth, attract global investment, and position our nation at the forefront of intellectual property—arguably the most crucial asset of the future. Let's motivate our children to innovate new platforms, establish new industries, and optimize production across all sectors."
The summit hosted by the First Lady is part of a series of White House events focused on AI, as the administration seeks to harness the potential of emerging technologies.
Her remarks coincided with a landmark decision from a Los Angeles jury that found Meta and YouTube liable for creating products that contributed to harmful behaviors among young users—a ruling that could set a significant legal precedent for similar cases against social media companies.
