Micah Lasher Claims Victory in High-Stakes Democratic Primary for NY-12
State Assemblyman Micah Lasher has triumphed in a fiercely competitive primary for New York's 12th Congressional District, as projected by CBS News.
Lasher will now face off against candidates from various parties in November, stepping into the race to succeed retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler.
This district, one of the wealthiest in the nation, spans significant portions of Manhattan, including the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, and Midtown neighborhoods.
Currently, Lasher represents District 69 in Manhattan, which includes Morningside Heights, Manhattan Valley, and parts of the Upper West Side.
He secured endorsements from notable figures such as Nadler, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The primary featured eight Democratic candidates, including recognizable names like Alex Bores, George Conway, Christopher Diep, Laura Dunn, Jack Schlossberg, Nina Schwalbe, and Patrick Timmins.
Polls indicated a tight contest among Lasher, Bores, and Schlossberg. An Emerson College poll conducted in May highlighted Lasher and Bores as the frontrunners.
Conway, a prominent conservative lawyer and vocal critic of President Trump, co-founded The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump super PAC, adding to his notoriety in the race.
The 12th District's primary became one of the most expensive in the country, with Bloomberg pouring millions into supporting Lasher's campaign.
AdImpact reported a staggering $26 million spent on advertisements for this race.
Lasher is favored to win in November due to the district's strong Democratic leanings.
