MTG Fuels Speculation Surrounding Trump’s Would-Be Assassin Thomas Crooks

Marjorie Taylor Greene has ignited speculation regarding the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024, asserting that “there are a lot of questions” surrounding the would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks.

The former GOP representative, known for her allegiance to Trump, joins a growing list of MAGA figures alleging a “cover-up” by authorities, despite lacking substantial evidence to support such claims.

According to a final report released last year by the FBI concerning the shooting incident on July 13, 2024, Crooks acted independently when he fired at Trump, resulting in a minor injury to the president and the tragic death of supporter Corey Comperatore. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that Trump was “fully briefed” and expressed satisfaction with the findings, effectively closing the case.

Yet, lingering questions about Crooks’s motivations and political affiliations have led some skeptics, including members of Congress, to accuse the FBI of “stonewalling” further inquiries.

“I’m not calling the Butler assassination a hoax,” Greene stated on X Sunday. “But there are a lot of questions that deserve public answers. I’m asking why won’t Trump release the information about Matthew Crooks?”

“Did he actually act alone?” Greene continued. “If not, who is behind him and who helped him? Why the cover-up?”

The White House has countered these conspiracy theories, with a spokesperson remarking that “only a fool” would subscribe to such notions.

Greene amplified a theory shared by Trisha Hope, a Texas delegate for the 2024 Republican National Convention and self-identified “J6 Activist,” who expressed skepticism about the official narrative and claimed Trump has shown “no interest in investigating what really happened.”

“I agree,” Greene responded. “Corey Comperatore’s wife and daughters deserve to know why Corey, a true American patriot and hero was murdered in Butler. Trump said repeatedly ‘I am your retribution.’ Where is the retribution?” she questioned her followers.

On the anniversary of the shooting, Comperatore’s widow, Helen Comperatore, expressed her ongoing quest for answers. “All I’ve wanted this entire time was to sit down with the men who screwed up that day and find out why,” she told media last year. “Why? Why at that rally? Why at that one in Butler?”

Initially, many of Trump’s supporters viewed his survival as an act of divine intervention; however, right-wing commentators like Tim Dillon and Tucker Carlson have begun to propagate the unfounded theory that the assassination attempt was “staged.”

Former Minnesota Governor and WWE star Jesse Ventura echoed similar sentiments during an appearance on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored last month. Ventura referred to the incident as a “blade job,” a term from professional wrestling where fighters intentionally injure themselves to create an illusion of serious harm.

“What, you think it was fake?” Morgan challenged. “I don't know, where's his scar today?” Ventura retorted, referencing the injury Trump sustained to his ear.

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle dismissed these conspiracy theories in a recent statement. “On that tragic day in Butler, Pennsylvania, we tragically lost an American hero, Corey Comperatore, who selflessly laid down his life to protect those around him,” Ingle stated. “President Trump will never forget Corey and his beautiful family. On that dark day, God spared President Trump’s life by a miraculous millimeter.”

“President Trump is standing stronger than ever as he continues to ‘fight, fight, fight’ for the American people,” Ingle added. “Only a fool would believe otherwise.”
