NBC Anchor Claims She'd 'Tweak' Her Response as Trump Storms Out of Interview

Kristen Welker's interview with Donald Trump ended in chaos, with the former president storming out after a heated exchange over the Justice Department's Anti-Weaponization Fund.

During the interview, Trump labeled the media as "fake dirty press" while justifying the fund as support for those "destroyed" by Joe Biden's administration, specifically referencing individuals charged in connection with the January 6 Capitol assault.

The conversation quickly spiraled into allegations of election fraud, with Trump declaring, "The election was rigged. It was a dirty election, and it's happening right now in California."

Welker pressed for evidence, which only seemed to infuriate Trump further. He retaliated by calling California, Welker, and Meet the Press "crooked."

In response, Welker stated, "To be fair, I'm not crooked, but let's continue," attempting to regain control of the dialogue.

Trump shot back, "You're either crooked or you're stupid. You know that these elections are rigged."

Despite Welker's insistence on evidence for Trump's claims, he abruptly declared, "Let's call it quits because I've had enough. Thank you, darling, have a good time," before ripping off his microphone.

Welker's plea, "Mr. President, please, I traveled all the way to Wisconsin," drew sharp criticism from figures like Jon Stewart and Tina Brown.

After the incident, Welker reflected on her reaction, stating she would consider tweaking her comments if given the chance. She expressed surprise at Trump's abrupt exit and noted there’s no script for such moments.

She clarified that her remarks were not personal but represented the entire NBC team. The interview was initially set for Washington, D.C., but plans changed last minute, forcing a significant resource shift to Wisconsin.

Welker explained the logistical challenges: "So we had to divert a massive amount of resources to Wisconsin in order to make sure this interview matched the presidential-level interview that it deserved." She emphasized the extensive effort involved in preparing for a presidential interview.

Despite the chaos, she maintained that she had a long list of questions ready for Trump.

Welker concluded that she would have liked to provide a broader context to her comments if given more time as Trump exited.
