Trump Blames Rain for Meltdown, Calls Media “Crooked” in Fiery Interview

Jun 12 2026

President Donald Trump stormed out of an interview, blaming “disruptive” rain for his foul mood, according to NBC host Kristen Welker. This explosive moment unfolded during a recent episode of Meet the Press.

Welker recounted her conversation with Trump the morning after the interview, revealing he claimed, “the rain was disruptive” and suggested they would reschedule in Washington. This was not the first time she faced his unpredictable temperament; she has covered him since 2015.

“I try to stay focused on the content of my questions and on getting answers,” Welker stated, emphasizing her commitment to representing the American people during presidential interviews.

The contentious interview took place in a Wisconsin barn, not Washington, D.C., as initially planned. The setting turned chaotic with rain pounding on the metal roof, leading to Trump's explosive reaction around the 35-minute mark.

When pressed about his unfounded claims regarding the 2020 election being “rigged,” Trump lost his cool. He accused Welker of being “crooked or stupid,” a claim she firmly denied. He then escalated his tirade, declaring, “You’re crooked, and Meet the Press is crooked, and so is ABC and CBS and CNN, one-sided crooked networks.”

In a fit of rage, he announced, “Let’s call it quits, because I’ve had enough… Thank you, darling. Have a good time.”

As Welker attempted to reason with him, he snapped, “I’ve sat in the rain with you for an hour. On and off in the rain. And I’ve given you enough time.”

Trump continued his rant, stating, “You want to straighten out your press because, you know what? A country can never be great with a dishonest press.”

He stormed off past John Deere tractors and straw while Welker pleaded, “I traveled all the way to Wisconsin for this interview…” Her remark drew mockery from Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.

The interview aired on Sunday’s Meet the Press episode. Welker noted on social media that it was “unfortunately complicated by weather issues” but insisted it was still “a substantial conversation.”

This incident marks yet another instance of Trump lashing out at female reporters. He previously insulted The New York Times’ Katie Rogers by calling her “ugly, both inside and out,” and belittled CBS News’ Weijia Jiang by suggesting she lacked intelligence.

Just days prior, he confronted CNN’s Kaitlan Collins over a question regarding a proposed $1.8 billion fund benefiting January 6 rioters. He labeled CNN as “a very corrupt organization” while pointing at Collins and criticizing her demeanor: “Never smiles. She never – she’s a young, beautiful woman – smiles. I never see a smile on her face. I see her standing with hatred in her eyes.”
