NBC News Axes Security Guard After Racial Slur Incident on ‘Today’ Show

NBC News has terminated a security guard who allegedly let a deranged individual infiltrate the “Today” show studio.

An intruder, seeking Al Roker, was arrested after breaking into the studio and confronting Craig Melvin on Thursday morning.

Security footage reveals two guards present during the alarming breach. One guard stepped away, allowing the intruder to slip past the other guard unnoticed.

It remains unclear which guard lost their job over this security failure, but insiders report that staff were disheartened by the dismissal, as he was a well-liked figure in the building.

The intruder managed to bypass security at NBC’s New York City headquarters and approached Melvin, 47, asking for Roker, 71, after failing to locate him.

The maniac reached the staircase inside the studio and confronted Melvin, but sources confirmed he did not enter the actual filming area.

After Melvin alerted security, the intruder was detained and arrested.

The New York Police Department confirmed that the man, identified as Andrew Truelove, faced multiple charges including hate crime menacing, hate crime burglary, hate crime criminal trespass, and harassment following his earlier arrest.

Reports indicate that Truelove, 41, hurled the N-word at Melvin during the incident, which occurred just before 9 a.m.

Melvin took to Instagram post-incident to reassure fans he was unharmed, stating, “Hey everyone. I’ve heard from so many of you over the last few hours. I’m doing just fine. Thanks for reaching out.”

He also mentioned he would not be taking time off after the frightening encounter. “I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on @todayshow,” he wrote.

The “Today” show issued a statement regarding the incident, indicating they were “reviewing the incident and our security protocols.”

“TODAY is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter,” the statement read. “NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously.”

The program emphasized their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone who works at and visits their studios.
