Cole Allen, the individual charged with plotting to assassinate former President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, was photographed just 30 minutes prior to the incident, brandishing two firearms and an array of knives.

The 31-year-old educator from Torrance, California, snapped a mirror selfie in his Washington Hilton hotel room at 8:03 p.m., grinning while clad in black attire complemented by a red tie, all while visibly armed. Court documents released on Wednesday detail that he was also in possession of extra ammunition, pliers, and wire cutters.

Investigators assert that shortly after capturing the selfie, Allen initiated a series of premeditated actions. By 8:30 p.m., he dispatched a collection of prescheduled emails containing what authorities have labeled an “Apology and Explanation” document, which they are interpreting as part of a manifesto detailing his grievances and intentions.

Following the email dispatch, Allen allegedly exited his hotel room equipped with weapons, navigating through the building’s interior stairwells to evade security cameras. He reportedly descended several floors and emerged near access points leading to the ballroom where the event was taking place.

Just after 8:30 p.m., Allen approached a security checkpoint after shedding a long coat that concealed a shotgun. According to the documents, he then rushed through a metal detector and headed toward the stairs leading down to the ballroom while brandishing the shotgun and allegedly aiming it as he advanced.

A Secret Service officer witnessed Allen discharge the weapon toward the stairs and immediately responded by firing five shots at him. Although the suspect was not struck, he fell to the ground and was swiftly subdued by law enforcement. Reports indicate that Allen sustained only a minor knee injury during the altercation.

The chaotic scene triggered panic within the venue, prompting the evacuation of Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and numerous cabinet members from the stage area as gunfire and alarms interrupted the proceedings.

Authorities later confirmed that Allen was apprehended after being restrained by law enforcement personnel.

Upon his arrest, Allen was reportedly found with a fully loaded 12-gauge shotgun, additional ammunition stored in a bag, a loaded handgun, and extra magazines. He also had knives, daggers, holsters, a sheath, pliers, wire cutters, and a cellphone in his possession. Records indicate that both firearms were legally acquired in California at different times.

Allen now faces multiple federal charges, including attempted assassination of the president, discharging a firearm during a violent crime, and various weapons-related offenses. If convicted, he could face a sentence of up to life in prison.
