In recent months, President Trump's cankles have become a topic of conversation, particularly during significant meetings at the White House. The visual evidence is hard to ignore, with images capturing the president's ankles bulging over his shoes.

California Governor Gavin Newsom seized the opportunity to mock Trump after cabinet members were seen sporting oversized shoes gifted by the president. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was notably photographed in a pair of $145 Florsheim shoes that appeared ill-fitting.
Reports indicate that Rubio, along with Vice President JD Vance and other male cabinet members, donned the same style of footwear. Notable MAGA supporters, including Sean Hannity, Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina, Tucker Carlson, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blai, are also said to have received these shoes.
Newsom, known for his sharp critiques of Trump, quipped that the shoes might be oversized because Trump himself requires extra space in his footwear. "Maybe Trump just assumes everyone else has swollen ankles," he posted on his Press Office account, a platform he frequently uses to take jabs at the president.
Trump's cankles have been prominently displayed during crucial meetings, raising health concerns as he is the oldest individual to assume the presidency. In July of last year, he underwent a medical examination after experiencing “mild swelling” in his lower legs. The diagnosis revealed a condition common among older adults that leads to blood pooling in the veins.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that tests conducted by the White House medical unit indicated Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency. This condition occurs when the small valves within the veins lose their ability to function properly, making it difficult for blood to flow against gravity.
Regarding the shoes, sources suggest that Trump estimates people's shoe sizes in their presence and has an aide place orders accordingly. The White House asserts that Trump personally pays for these shoes, which arrive in a brown Florsheim box adorned with his signature and sometimes accompanied by a note.
Some cabinet members have reportedly expressed frustration about feeling obligated to set aside their designer footwear in favor of Florsheims when visiting the White House. Those who receive a pair from Trump often feel compelled to wear them in his presence.
The American footwear brand Florsheim, known for its affordability compared to other dress shoe manufacturers, was founded in 1892 in Chicago by German immigrant Sigmund Florsheim and his son Milton. The brand has maintained a reputation for quality while remaining accessible to a broader audience.
