Newsom Unleashes Fury Against Trump’s DOJ Vendetta

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) is gearing up for a brutal showdown against President Donald Trump, who he accuses of launching a politically motivated attack through the Justice Department.

Just one day after revealing that he and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, are under investigation, Newsom’s team fired off a blistering memo to congressional allies and reporters, outlining their aggressive defense.

Newsom’s office clarified that the memo was a routine communication, not a directive for fellow Democrats. Brandon Richards, Newsom’s deputy director for rapid response, stated, “Our office always shares stakeholder talking points for any major announcement.”

The memo boldly claims that Newsom is being targeted due to his presidential aspirations for 2028, asserting that the DOJ is “searching for a crime that does NOT exist.”

Highlighted in red, the document accuses Trump of weaponizing the Justice Department and labels him a “coward and abuser” for also attacking Newsom’s wife.

“Trump is running an open-air corruption market out of the White House and openly profiting from the presidency,” the memo declares.

A Q&A section in the memo dismisses the DOJ’s investigation as a “lawless fishing expedition” aimed at digging up dirt on the Governor, alleging that the department is “chasing conspiracy theories.”

Top Democrats are rallying around Newsom, viewing the investigation as blatant political retribution. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) expressed skepticism about the investigation being coincidental, stating, “You can’t tell me this is a pure coincidence that they decide to go after a Democratic candidate.”

During a climate conference in Austria, former Vice President Kamala Harris echoed this sentiment, remarking that Trump’s actions were predictable. “He told us most of what we would know would happen,” she said.

Others targeted by Trump include former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and New York Attorney General Leticia James, all caught in the DOJ’s crosshairs.

After announcing on X that he and his wife were on Trump’s “hit list,” Newsom retaliated with a legal letter demanding all documents related to the investigation from acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.

“The American people deserve to know who ordered this abuse of power and how far it goes,” Newsom stated while sharing the letter on X.
