Sheryl Crow Rips UFC Freedom 250: 'Disgraceful and Void of Decency'
Sheryl Crow unleashed a torrent of outrage over the UFC Freedom 250 event, which coincided with President Donald Trump's birthday.
On June 14, President Trump, 80, celebrated his birthday at the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House South Lawn. The spectacle drew 4,300 guests to a custom-built arena, featuring 14 fighters in seven brutal bouts. Despite some thrilling fights, the event was marred by bad weather and swarming bugs.
Crow, 64, took to social media to denounce the "disgraceful event," branding it "void of decency." This condemnation followed a moment when Trump's hair was nearly blown off and a fighter made a vile remark about Michelle Obama.
In an Instagram Story, the singer declared, "To stay quiet means to turn a blind eye. And so, I am saying this." She continued, "What happened last night on the lawn of the White House was disgraceful and void of decency," emphasizing that "powerful, rich people filled the lawn to watch a violent sport that ended with a vile and racist comment."
Crow highlighted the struggles of the average American, stating they "cannot afford" healthcare, gas, or the rising cost of living.
She warned her followers not to "be fooled," accusing the Trump administration of being "corrupt and not giving a damn about the American people." Crow asserted that it only cares about "making money hand over fist at the expense and in spite of our democracy." She urged, "If we continue to support this kind of distraction from reality, we are no better than them."
She concluded with a call to action: "Let's be better, America."
Crow's ire was directed at UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit, 28, who made a disgusting comment about former First Lady Michelle Obama, 62.
After Hokit defeated Derrick Lewis via second-round TKO, he spoke with commentator Joe Rogan, 58, during a post-match press conference inside the Octagon. The fighter thanked President Trump for hosting the event before making a vile dig at Obama.
"And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?" Hokit asked.
Rogan quickly intervened, grabbing the microphone and introducing Hokit to the audience with "Ladies and gentlemen, Josh Hokit."
In the aftermath, Congressman Christian D. Menefee condemned Hokit online, stating, "They really let a UFC fighter call our only Black First Lady a man on the White House lawn at an official White House event. While thousands cheered and the biggest podcaster in the world smiled." He added, "There is no economic policy fix for this. Many of these people are just racist."
