The “Super Bass” sensation opened up about the moment that pushed her to publicly embrace President Donald Trump, a move that has sent shockwaves through the music industry.
Long before she was flaunting her support for Trump on social media in late 2025 or making headlines by appearing alongside him at a high-profile event in Washington, D.C., this powerhouse artist had already been a silent supporter. “I felt that way already about him, just that I didn’t dare act like that publicly,” she confessed. The pressure to conform to the Democratic narrative in the music biz was suffocating. “It’s been ingrained in everyone’s brain in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family. I just knew they would not like me supporting Trump,” she added.
But everything changed last April when Minaj became the target of a swatting hoax—an alarming form of harassment that sends police racing to an unsuspecting victim's home based on false emergency reports. After reaching out to California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) for help following similar incidents in 2022 and 2023, she was left stunned by his silence. “He just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,” Minaj lamented.

With her newfound freedom, Minaj began signaling her support for Trump online and took center stage last November at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where she delivered a speech on the persecution of Christians in Africa on behalf of his administration. This January, she boldly proclaimed herself the president’s “number one fan” while attending an event promoting “Trump Accounts,” a program designed to give children born between 2025 and 2028 a $1,000 seed investment from the U.S. Treasury.
