Nicolas Cage, born Nicolas Kim Coppola, has officially shed his birth name, opting for a moniker inspired by a comic book superhero. This revelation came during an interview with Marlow Stern, where Cage confirmed he made the change last year.
The actor, known for his Oscar-winning role in “Leaving Las Vegas,” stated, “I changed my name legally last year. I’m Nick Cage in life, and I’m Nick Cage on camera.” He expressed a desire to step out of the shadow of his famous relatives, including “The Godfather” director Francis Ford Coppola and actress Talia Shire.
Cage explained that the name 'Cage' resonated with him due to its connection to comic books and the avant-garde composer John Cage. He sought a name that was “short and sweet,” similar to icons like James Dean. He retained 'Nicolas' to honor his late father, professor August Coppola, despite his frustration with the French spelling.

He clarified that he remains open to being called either Nicolas or Nick, acknowledging that both names are familiar to his fans. The actor is currently featured in “Spider-Noir” on Amazon Prime.
“’Tis better to be the patriarch of my own little family than the clown cousin on the margins of someone else’s,” he declared, emphasizing his commitment to his new identity.
The legally certified Nicolas Cage continues to make waves in Hollywood with his bold choices and unique persona.
