Patricia Richardson Slams Her Own Performance in Tim Allen Reunion: 'Not My Best Work'
Patricia Richardson didn't hold back when she slammed her own performance during a reunion with Tim Allen on Last Man Standing, calling it "not my best work." The actress faced a brutal reality after a car accident just two months post-surgery.
Richardson, 75, shared her experience on Instagram, recalling the chaos of her second appearance on the show. She was hit by a 93-year-old driver, which left her in agony as she struggled to recover from a shoulder replacement.
“Had to take Friday rehearsal off, back Monday after painful weekend, didn’t know I was shooting that day,” she wrote. The episode in question featured her character, Helen Potts, and aired during season 5. She had previously appeared in season 4.
Last Man Standing ran from 2011 to 2017 on ABC, marking Tim Allen's return to the network after Home Improvement ended in 1999. The show later shifted to Fox for three additional seasons until 2021.

Allen portrayed Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on Home Improvement, while Richardson played his wife, Jill. Their reunion was highly anticipated by fans but left Richardson feeling less than satisfied with her performance.
In a twist of fate, Richardson reunited with Allen and former co-stars Richard Karn and Debbe Dunning for an episode of Allen's latest sitcom, Shifting Gears, which aired in October 2025.
Meanwhile, Allen hinted at a potential Home Improvement reboot in June. He mentioned ongoing discussions but noted complications due to "personality problems" among the actors who played Tim and Jill's sons.
He specifically pointed out Zachery Ty Bryan, who played eldest son Brad Taylor. Bryan has faced numerous legal troubles, including a recent 19-month prison sentence in Oregon for probation violations. He is currently serving time for a separate DUI conviction from 2024.
Richardson's candid remarks about her performance reflect the harsh realities of acting under pressure and personal turmoil. “Not ready, another hard day,” she stated bluntly about her experience on set.
