Paul Pelosi's Crash History: From Fatal Joyride to Hit-and-Run Charges

Jul 05 2026

Paul Pelosi, husband of Nancy Pelosi, is in hot water again, facing hit-and-run charges after allegedly slamming his convertible into a parked car in Napa County. This incident marks yet another crash in a long line of reckless driving events, including a tragic wreck that claimed his brother's life decades ago.

The 86-year-old businessman from San Francisco has been married to the former House Speaker for over 60 years. His legal troubles escalated in May 2022 when he was arrested for DUI following a crash in Napa County.

At that time, the then-82-year-old had just left a dinner with a prominent Democratic donor. He got behind the wheel of a black 2021 Porsche 911 around 10 p.m., intending to drive six miles to his Napa Valley residence.

While attempting to cross State Route 29, a Jeep barreled down the highway and collided with his vehicle. Authorities measured his blood alcohol content at 0.082%. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.

In August 2022, Pelosi received a five-day jail sentence, was ordered to pay $6,800 in fines and restitution, and mandated to complete a DUI program along with three years of probation.

Flashback to 1957: At just 16 years old, he flipped his sports car, resulting in the death of his older brother. The incident occurred near San Mateo, south of San Francisco. His brother David, aged 19 and a passenger in the car, had urged him to slow down moments before the fatal crash, as reported by a patrolman cited in the San Francisco Examiner.

The brothers took a joyride in the early morning hours of February 1957 instead of heading home. The car somersaulted and landed upside-down on the roadside.

David was reportedly strangled by a neck brace he wore due to a previous fracture, while Paul found himself trapped beneath the vehicle but managed to escape and call for help.

Initially cited for misdemeanor manslaughter, he was later exonerated by a coroner's jury.

In addition to these serious incidents, Pelosi racked up two minor infractions in 2011 for running a red light and veering over the center line while driving.
