Republican Donors Anxious as Trump Hoards $300M War Chest

May 10 2026

Republican donors are sweating bullets as they watch over $300 million sit idle in a MAGA-aligned super PAC, just six months away from the midterm elections. The clock is ticking, and the tension is palpable.

MAGA Inc. PAC, born in 2023 to back candidates loyal to Donald Trump, boasts a staggering $347 million in cash reserves. Yet, candidates scrambling to hold onto their House and Senate seats are left empty-handed, and that’s raising eyebrows among party insiders.

Frustration is brewing among some Republicans who fear Trump is underestimating the uphill battle GOP candidates face. Voter dissatisfaction is at an all-time high, fueled by soaring gas prices and skyrocketing food costs—issues many blame on the president’s controversial military actions in Iran.

Whispers of concern echo through the party as some donors suspect the super PAC might prioritize Trump’s personal agenda over supporting candidates. “Mild panic will set in soon,” warned one anonymous donor, stressing that funds need to flow by early summer or risk losing crucial races.

While MAGA Inc. operates independently from Trump—thanks to super PAC regulations that prevent direct coordination—the former president’s influence looms large through his endorsements and policy directives.

Super PACs wield immense power, able to rake in unlimited donations and spend freely on independent efforts like advertising and polling. Yet, with Trump unable to run again as a second-term president, the expectation is that he should be rallying support for his party, especially with midterms on the horizon.

Historically, sitting presidents have seen their parties lose seats during midterms; the last exception was George W. Bush in 2002. A former Trump administration official expressed doubts about Trump’s commitment: “If he were serious about the midterms, he’d be spending his money first. Most donors would be shocked if he even spent 10 percent of it.”

Despite this skepticism, sources close to Trump insist he’s eager to assist Republicans, albeit with a cautious approach to spending. MAGA Inc. spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer shot back at Politico’s report, claiming, “They don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. We don’t disclose our battle plans through the press.”

Meanwhile, an unnamed senior White House official downplayed donor concerns, assuring that MAGA Inc. funds would be allocated where they’re most needed. However, polling reveals Trump’s approval rating has plummeted below 40 percent—the lowest of his second term—amid growing voter frustration over his foreign policy decisions.

Voters are increasingly worried about the implications of Trump’s military focus, particularly in the Middle East. While he campaigned on a promise to avoid new conflicts, his administration has ignited tensions with Iran. Trump defends these actions as necessary to thwart nuclear threats, but as time drags on, many question whether this justification holds water.

Another Republican donor voiced concerns that candidates are more preoccupied with how Trump’s Iran war is inflating gas prices than with tapping into millions for their campaigns. The stakes are high, and the pressure is mounting as the midterms approach.
