Right-wing Podcasters Spotlight Joe Kent’s Departure as Evidence of MAGA Disintegration

Mar 18 2026

Right-wing podcasters are seizing on Joe Kent's resignation as a signal of deeper fractures within the MAGA movement. Kent, who served as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, announced his departure in a letter that criticized President Trump’s approach to potential military action against Iran.

Tim Dillon, host of the Timcast, took to social media to declare, “The MAGA Coalition is shattered. Trump can say 'I AM MAGA' all he wants, and it may be true, but lost support means MAGA is meaningless.” His words reflect a growing sentiment among some influencers who once rallied behind Trump.

Shawn Ryan, another prominent voice in the right-wing podcasting sphere, remarked, “Sometimes the most impactful statement you can make is a strong resignation. It's unfortunate it's come down to this. God's speed @joekent16jan19 I hope this wakes some people up.”

Kent's resignation letter, shared online Tuesday, articulated his moral objections to Trump's war plans, stating he could not “in good conscience” support military action against Iran, which he deemed posed “no imminent threat to our nation.”

“So there was at least still one American with a soul in the administration. Now… who knows,” Ian Carrol commented. Meanwhile, conspiracy theorist Candace Owens praised Kent as “an American hero, patriot and veteran,” criticizing Trump by saying, “may American troops take his lead and look into conscientious objection.”

Trump's victory over Kamala Harris in 2024 was bolstered by support from these influential figures, many of whom were introduced to him through his son, Barron Trump. This group often aligns with the so-called Manosphere, an online community that promotes controversial views under the banner of traditional values.

Myron Gaines, a podcaster and former DHS agent, noted the significance of Kent's resignation: “The resignation of the #2 official in the U.S. intelligence community over the Iran war is extremely telling.” He emphasized Kent's high-ranking position and access to classified intelligence, suggesting that his departure was a profound act of integrity.

“He held one of the most prestigious and powerful positions in the entire apparatus... Yet he still chose to walk away… That’s not the act of someone with doubts. That’s someone who saw the raw, unfiltered truth and could no longer justify what he was seeing,” Gaines added.

For those questioning Kent's patriotism, the message is clear: he assessed the situation and determined that this war cannot be defended. “@joekent16jan19 has enormous courage for doing this!”

Support for Kent also came from staunch MAGA supporters like Marjorie Taylor Greene and model Carrie Prejean Boller. Greene declared on social media, “Joe Kent is a GREAT AMERICAN HERO. God bless him and protect him!” Prejean echoed this sentiment, thanking Kent for his “courage and integrity” in resigning from what she termed a disgraceful administration.

Kent's confirmation as NCC director last summer faced scrutiny due to his associations with far-right groups and promotion of conspiracy theories regarding the 2020 election. His military background includes two decades as an Army Green Beret, during which he lost his wife, Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent, in a suicide bombing in Syria in 2019—a personal tragedy he referenced in his resignation letter.
