Savage Alligator Attack Claims Young Boy's Hand as Hero Dad Fights for His Life
An 11-year-old boy lost his hand in a brutal alligator attack while his father fought to save him from the jaws of an eight-foot, seven-inch beast. The horrific incident unfolded during a fishing trip at Nelson's Fish Camp in Marion County, Florida.
Brodie Terry was about to release a fish back into the water when the alligator clamped down on his hand. In a frantic attempt to rescue his son, Brodie's father leaped into the water and tried to pry the gator's jaws open.

“The gator rolled, and that’s what ultimately severed Brodie’s hand,” said relative Andrew Raines. This deadly maneuver, known as a roll, is a tactic gators use to drown and dismember their prey.
Medical professionals fought desperately to save Brodie’s hand, but it was ultimately amputated. He was released from the hospital on Friday and is now recovering in Pennsylvania.
The alligator responsible for this savage attack was later killed by Florida wildlife officials. The family expressed the heavy toll this tragedy has taken on their lives.

“This tragic accident has not only changed Brodie's life but has also placed a tremendous burden on his family as they navigate the aftermath,” they stated.
Brodie's love for fishing, baseball, and football has always been a source of joy for him. Now, he faces the daunting challenge of adapting to life without his hand while trying to hold onto the activities he loves.

Florida is home to approximately 1.3 million alligators, with over 450 recorded attacks since 1948. However, only about 30 of those attacks have resulted in fatalities, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Tragically, just one day after Brodie's attack, another victim, Brittany Clark, lost her life after an alligator bit her arm and twisted into a death roll. She succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries while being transported to a hospital.
Clark was swimming in roughly three feet of water in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest when she was attacked.
