Scooter Braun Claims Total Ignorance of Taylor Swift Amidst Ongoing Feud

May 30 2026

Scooter Braun remains baffled by his infamous conflict with Taylor Swift, which erupted after he acquired her music masters.

In a recent episode of the "Second Thought" podcast, Braun revealed his limited interactions with Swift, despite their very public feud. “I don’t know Taylor Swift. I think I’ve met her in my life three times,” he stated. “I have never had a substantial conversation with her in my life.”

At 44 years old, Braun recounted a single instance where Swift invited him to a private party, claiming she expressed “the utmost respect” for him. That brief encounter marked the extent of their relationship.

“I will never truly understand that situation to this day. I wish her nothing but the best,” he added, emphasizing his confusion over the ongoing drama.

He noted that many are shocked to learn he genuinely doesn’t know her and had minimal interactions. Braun described how the feud transformed him into a villain overnight but acknowledged that it sparked a broader conversation about artists wanting to own their masters.

His conflict with Swift, who is 36, ignited in 2019 when he purchased the rights to her first six albums—“Taylor Swift,” “Fearless,” “Speak Now,” “Red,” “1989,” and “Reputation”—from Big Machine Records without her consent.

Swift expressed her devastation in a scathing Tumblr post in 2019, revealing that Braun’s $300 million deal stripped her of her life’s work. “Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy,” she wrote. “Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.”

She accused Braun of subjecting her to “incessant, manipulative bullying” through his former clients Justin Bieber and Kanye West.

In November 2020, investment firm Shamrock Capital purchased Swift’s music from Braun. By May 2025, Swift announced she had successfully bought back her masters from Shamrock Capital after re-recording four of her past albums to reclaim her music.

“I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away,” she wrote in an emotional message to fans on her website. “But that’s all in the past now. I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening. I really get to say those words.”

“All of the music I’ve ever made … now belongs… to me.”

Braun later expressed his happiness for Swift in a statement after she regained ownership of her masters.
