Secret Service Agents Revolt Over JD Vance’s Absurd Travel Demands

Jul 16 2026

Secret Service agents tasked with protecting Vice President JD Vance are “fed up” with his “inappropriate” travel demands, creating a brewing morale crisis within the team.

A recent request to fly Vance and his young son across Washington for a golf lesson in Marine Two sparked outrage. The trip was only scrapped due to inclement weather, according to reports.

“That is RIDICULOUS,” one agent reportedly vented in a private message. “[Mike] Pence and [Kamala] Harris never pulled anything like that.”

Another agent expressed frustration, stating, “They change everything. They don’t stick to their schedules, and that costs s***-tons of taxpayer money.”

Using the helicopter requires approval from the White House Military Office, costing taxpayers between $16,000 and $24,600 per hour based on 2022 Defense Department budget estimates.

Sources revealed that while there’s no formal policy against using a government helicopter for personal errands, this request had “no precedent” and exemplified the undue pressure agents face from last-minute demands made by the second family.

The Vances have also made several helicopter trips to Middleburg, Virginia, for house hunting. Vance and second lady Usha Vance have three children aged nine, six, and four, with a fourth on the way.

“The detail is tired of them not giving notice on things and making everything an OTR [off the record],” a source disclosed. “[Vance] thinks he can still move around like a U.S. senator.”

Resentment among Secret Service members has reached such levels that they’ve created challenge coins and stickers to mock the situation.

One coin features a bobcat, referencing Vance’s official code name, with the slogan “TBD, TBD” [to be determined] and the tagline: “Advance. OTR. Repeat.”

Another coin styled like a sheriff’s star reads: “Bobcat OTR Survivors Club.”

A spokesperson for Vance stated: “The Vances are grateful to the men and women of the U.S. Secret Service who serve our country with distinction.”

He added, “While protecting a Vice President with a large policy portfolio and a young and growing family presents a unique challenge, agents of the Secret Service do so with excellence every day.”

Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn commented: “When U.S. Secret Service Special Agents choose to join a protective detail, they understand the commitment required: long hours, frequent travel, and the need for constant flexibility.”

Quinn continued, “Nights, weekends, and holidays are part of the job. Our agents work tirelessly to ensure protectees’ safety and security while also preserving normalcy to the extent possible.”

He emphasized the agency's commitment to supporting personnel, which demands around-the-clock dedication and discipline. “This is a job that requires absolute dedication and discipline,” he stated.

On MS Now’s Deadline Wednesday, journalist Carol Leonnig remarked: “The Secret Service doesn’t complain a lot. When they’re angry in this way, it’s sort of a red alarm. They’re an overworked, under-resourced agency.”

Leonnig added, “Some of them use the word ‘royal treatment.’ They’re not used to providing royal treatment to the children of a vice president.”
