Stephen Colbert Ridicules Trump’s 'Cage-Free Insanity' Easter Rant

Apr 07 2026

“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert unleashed a barrage of satire on President Donald Trump during Monday's episode, targeting a particularly incendiary Easter Sunday social media post. In this post, Trump employed profanity, concluded with a traditional Muslim greeting, and issued a stark warning to Iran amidst the ongoing conflict he initiated.

“I trust everyone enjoyed their weekend, whether you marked Passover or Easter or, like our president, went completely cage-free crazy online — because on Easter morning he unveiled his latest strategies for the war in Iran,” Colbert quipped at the start of his monologue.

With exaggerated flair, Colbert recited Trump’s astonishing message. “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH!”

Last month, Iran effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for one-fifth of the world’s oil supply, following Trump’s declaration of war. This conflict has already claimed the lives of at least 13 U.S. service members and over 2,000 Iranians, raising alarms about a potential global energy crisis.

Colbert remarked that it’s “not often that a network has to bleep the words of a sitting president,” humorously recalling that the last time this happened was during Harry Truman’s presidency — who famously displayed a sign on his desk that read, ‘The shit stops fuck.’”

He continued to lampoon Trump for his constantly shifting deadlines regarding Iran’s reopening of the strait to maritime traffic. Colbert pointed out that Trump had previously threatened to “obliterate” Iranian power plants if they didn’t comply within 48 hours — only to delay those strikes multiple times.

“At this point he’s tried every tactic except passive-aggressive parental guilt trip,” Colbert joked, mimicking Trump: “‘Well, I guess you won’t open the Strait of Hormuz before I die, but that’s fine. I mean, who needs oil when I’m clearly never going to have grandchildren?’”

However, the situation has grown increasingly dire. On Tuesday morning, Trump ominously tweeted about his latest ultimatum, stating that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” while asserting that no options are off the table.
